Every director of a Pvt Ltd, OPC, or Section 8 company must have a DIN.
Once allotted, DIN is valid for life (subject to the periodic KYC).
A DIN whose KYC is not filed by the due date is marked deactivated, and reactivating it means filing the KYC with the late fee under the MCA fee rules.
A deactivated DIN cannot ordinarily be used for MCA filings until the KYC is filed with the ₹5,000 fee. Deactivation is separate from disqualification under Section 164, which follows the company’s own filing defaults.
