Does your item master carry rate logic, or one rate per category?
For an Ahmedabad trading or processing business the item master is the setup, and it carries a problem most people import rather than fix. The GST slab structure changed on 22 September 2025, the 12 and 28 per cent bands were abolished, and textiles above a value threshold moved up rather than down. An item master built before that date and carried across unchanged charges rates that no longer exist, on every invoice, from day one in the new system.
Whether the item master is re-mapped during setup or imported as it stands. Re-mapping is the right answer and it is the single most valuable hour in an Ahmedabad implementation, because a migration is treated as a fresh start and nobody re-checks rates afterwards. For textiles it also means building rate logic rather than one rate per category.
Books as the core with a properly structured item master, Inventory where stock is held across the Changodar and Sanand belts, and multi-currency for the export segment.
Textile sellers face the awkward version of this, because rate can depend on the transaction value of the individual item rather than on its category alone, so a promotional price can move an item across the threshold that determines its rate. A flat rate per category cannot express that. The item master needs the logic in it and the monthly close needs a check that what was charged matches what should have been, in both directions, because undercharged tax becomes a demand with interest and overcharged tax quietly loses sales to a correctly priced competitor without anyone reporting it.
Before anything else on this page, take thirty seconds and check where your books actually are. Log into Zoho Books and read the address bar: zoho.in is the India data centre, zoho.com is the United States, zoho.eu is Europe. The region was fixed when the organisation was created and Zoho does not replicate data across regions, so that is genuinely where your books live, backups included. An Indian business that signed up through a global link, or whose organisation was created by a consultant abroad, can be running entirely in a United States data centre while assuming otherwise. Since 1 April 2026 the country of storage is a disclosed item in the tax audit report, and changing region afterwards is a migration rather than a setting.

A default import carries them across unchanged, which is the problem. We re-map the item master against the slab structure in force since 22 September 2025 as part of the setup, rather than importing rates that were correct under a structure that no longer exists. For a large item master this is the longest task in the implementation and it is the one that repays the effort.
It can, but only if the item master is built with the rate logic rather than one flat rate per category. Rate follows the transaction value of the actual supply, so for a textile business with a wide price ladder identical-looking items can carry different rates and a promotional price can move one across the line. That structure is decided at setup, and the monthly close should include a check in both directions.
Separation from the first entry: zero-rated exports under a Letter of Undertaking, domestic supplies carrying output tax, and the input credit attributable to each tracked distinctly so the accumulated balance can be substantiated when you claim a refund. Multi-currency is needed from the Professional tier, configured so exchange differences are captured at invoice date, receipt date and reporting date.
