A CA-signed statement of assets and liabilities, with UDIN, for tourist, student and business visa files
A net worth certificate for a visa is a practising chartered accountant's signed statement of what you own, less what you owe, on one stated date. It carries a UDIN that anyone, including a visa officer, can check on ICAI's portal. Delhi applicants file it as supporting financial evidence next to their bank statements and income-tax returns, not in place of them. We prepare it from your records, state how each asset is valued, and give the total in rupees and, where you need it, in the destination currency at a stated reference rate. The fee starts at ₹1,499, excluding GST.
| Item | Position for a Delhi applicant |
|---|---|
| What it is | A practising CA's certificate of assets less liabilities on one reference date |
| Who signs | A chartered accountant holding a certificate of practice from ICAI |
| Verification | 18-character UDIN, checkable on udin.icai.org without registering |
| Status in a visa file | Supporting evidence of funds and ties to India; bank statements and ITRs still come first |
| Currency | Rupees, with an optional foreign-currency total at a stated reference rate and date |
| Where files are lodged | Usually at the visa application centre the mission appoints, not at the embassy in Chanakyapuri |
| Turnaround | 24 to 72 hours once records are complete |
| Government fee | Nil |
| Our fee | From ₹1,499, excluding GST |
Most Delhi applicants come to us because a travel agent, a university or a relative said the embassy “needs” a CA certificate. In the official checklists we have checked, it does not appear by name. The UK government's guide to supporting documents for visitors asks for financial documents that clearly show you have access to enough funds, such as bank statements that show where the money came from and proof of earnings. Canada's proof of funds guidance talks about bank statements, savings and an employment letter, and sets no fixed amount for visitors.
So a net worth certificate is supporting evidence. It is worth filing when your bank balance understates your position: when the family's savings sit in fixed deposits, mutual funds, PPF or a flat in Rohini, Dwarka or Lajpat Nagar rather than in a savings account. It pulls those holdings onto one signed page that ties back to documents the officer can check. It does not make up for a thin bank history, and it never replaces the documents a checklist actually names.
Always start from the current checklist on the mission's own website or its appointed visa centre's site, for the exact visa you are applying for. If that checklist asks for something specific, such as a set format or a minimum balance held for a set period, that rule wins over anything a certificate says.
A typical file is a salaried or business-owning parent travelling with a spouse and children. The trip costs are modest next to the family's assets, but most of those assets sit in property and investments. The certificate shows the whole picture, with the joint holdings marked as joint.
Parents in Delhi often fund a master's in the UK, Canada, Australia or the US. Student routes usually have their own rules on how funds must be shown, and for how long they must be held, through bank statements, an education loan sanction or a deposit the destination specifies. A certificate in the parents' names supports the sponsor's standing; it does not replace those proofs. See our guide on the net worth certificate for an education loan.
Traders, manufacturers and exporters travelling for fairs, buyer meetings or supplier audits use a personal certificate to show standing beyond the business account. If the mission or the host company wants the company's own net worth, that is a separate certificate on the company's audited figures.
Retired parents visiting children in the US, Canada or Australia often have pension income, a paid-off home and fixed deposits but small monthly bank activity. A certificate sets that out clearly, and a sponsor's documents from the host can sit alongside it.
Most embassies and high commissions in India sit in the diplomatic enclave at Chanakyapuri; the US Embassy, for example, is on Shantipath, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi 110021. Applicants rarely hand documents in there. Most missions take applications and biometrics through an outsourced visa application centre they appoint: the German missions in India, for instance, work with VFS Global, and other missions use their own appointed providers. The mission's website names its current provider and centre.
This matters for the certificate in two ways. First, the centre checks your documents against the mission's checklist, so the certificate should be one clear document with its annexures attached, not loose sheets. Second, you seldom need it addressed to a named embassy. “To whom it may concern”, with the purpose stated as a visa application, lets you use the same certificate for more than one mission if the reference date suits each one.
Gold and jewellery are included only on a registered valuer's report. Vehicles and household goods are usually left out, because officers give them little weight.
You tell us the country, the visa type, your appointment date and whose assets the certificate should cover. We set a reference date close to the appointment and consistent with the bank statements you will file.
You share the documents online. We trace each asset and liability to its record: every account balance to a statement, every property to a registered deed, every loan to a lender statement.
We agree with you how each asset is valued (cost, circle rate, market value on a valuer's report, NAV or closing price) and write the basis next to each line.
You review the draft annexures, confirm nothing material is missing, and sign a short representation letter.
The CA signs, generates the UDIN on ICAI's portal and sends the signed PDF. Hard copies can be couriered within Delhi if the centre wants originals.
| Stage | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Document collection | Depends on you; usually the longest step |
| Tracing and draft | Within 24 hours for a simple file |
| Review, signature and UDIN | Same day as your approval |
| Several properties, unlisted shares or a joint family file | Up to 72 hours |
No law fixes how long a certificate stays “valid”, because it speaks to one date. Missions apply their own recency expectations to financial documents, and the UK guide, for example, treats bank statements or letters issued more than a year before the application as less useful. Our advice is simple: pick a reference date close to your appointment, and if the appointment moves by months, get a fresh certificate on a later date instead of re-using an old one.
There is no government fee for a net worth certificate. ICAI does not charge the applicant for the UDIN. Costs that can arise outside our fee, only if the mission or a university asks for them, are notarisation, apostille or attestation, and certified translation. These are separate steps taken after the CA signs, billed at actuals or quoted in advance.
| Package | Fee (excluding GST) | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | From ₹1,499 | One applicant, bank accounts, investments and up to one property |
| Family | From ₹6,999 | A couple or a joint certificate for applicant and sponsoring parent, with property and ITR tracing |
| Multi-family | From ₹11,999 | Several family members, several properties, business interests or unlisted shares |
Fees exclude GST at 18%. Payment is 50% upfront and 50% on delivery. We confirm the fee after seeing your asset list, before work starts. Valuer's fees, notarisation, apostille and translation are not included.
A certificate is only as convincing as its valuation basis. We state the basis line by line, so the officer can see what each figure means.
| Asset | Basis we normally use |
|---|---|
| Savings and current accounts | Balance on the reference date, per bank statement |
| Fixed deposits | Principal plus interest accrued to the reference date |
| Mutual funds | Units × NAV on the reference date, per the consolidated account statement |
| Listed shares | Holding × closing price on the reference date, per demat statement |
| PPF, EPF | Balance per latest statement |
| Delhi property | Circle rate notified by the Delhi government's Revenue Department, or purchase cost, or market value on a registered valuer's report; the basis is stated |
| Loans and card dues | Outstanding on the reference date, per lender statement |
The CA certifies the rupee figure. A foreign-currency figure is a translation of it, so the certificate names the rate, its source and its date. We use the reference rate published by Financial Benchmarks India Ltd (FBIL), which took over the computation and dissemination of the reference rate from the Reserve Bank of India on 10 July 2018, for the reference date. If a mission or university specifies a rate, we use that one instead.
An officer reads the file as a whole. A modest, consistent certificate is better evidence than a large figure the rest of the file does not support.
| Document | What it shows | What it cannot show |
|---|---|---|
| Bank statement | Cash available and the pattern of income and spending | Property, investments and loans held elsewhere |
| Income-tax return | Declared income over the years and its sources | The current value of what you own |
| Net worth certificate | Total assets less liabilities on one date, traced to records, with a UDIN | Day-to-day cash flow, or that the funds are available for the trip |
| Sponsor's documents | That a parent or host can fund the trip | Your own ties to India |
Filed together, they answer the two questions most officers ask: can you pay for this trip, and do you have reasons to come back?
A net worth certificate is a certificate issued by a chartered accountant in practice, governed by ICAI's pronouncements, including its Guidance Note on Reports or Certificates for Special Purposes. There is no statutory format, so where a mission or university prescribes wording, that wording is used.
ICAI requires a UDIN on every certificate signed on or after 1 February 2019. A UDIN is 18 characters long: the last two digits of the year, the CA's six-digit membership number and a ten-character code. Third parties can verify it on the UDIN portal without registering.

A couple in Rohini are funding their daughter's master's in the UK. The university and the visa route have their own funds rules, which the daughter meets with bank statements. The parents want a certificate in their joint names to support their standing as sponsors, with the total shown in pounds. The reference date is fixed close to the appointment.
| Item | Basis | ₹ |
|---|---|---|
| Flat in Rohini (joint) | Circle rate × built-up area | 1,20,00,000 |
| Fixed deposits | Principal plus accrued interest | 18,40,000 |
| Savings accounts | Balance per statements | 6,85,000 |
| Mutual funds | Units × NAV | 21,60,000 |
| Listed shares | Closing price | 7,90,000 |
| PPF (both) | Balance per passbook | 9,25,000 |
| Total assets | 1,84,00,000 | |
| Home loan outstanding | Lender statement | (26,50,000) |
| Car loan outstanding | Lender statement | (3,50,000) |
| Net worth | 1,54,00,000 | |
| In pounds sterling | At ₹115.00 per GBP | £133,913 |
Working: ₹1,54,00,000 ÷ 115.00 = £133,913, rounded down to the pound. The certificate also shows liquid assets (FDs, savings, mutual funds and shares) separately at ₹54,75,000, because that is what an officer looks at for trip and study costs, while the flat and PPF show ties and long-term standing.
Illustrative figures. The ₹115.00 rate is assumed for this example only; the actual certificate uses the FBIL reference rate published for the reference date, or a rate the mission specifies.

Usually not by name. The official checklists we have checked, such as the UK visitor guide and Canada's proof of funds guidance, ask for bank statements, proof of earnings and similar evidence. A CA certificate is supporting evidence that is most useful when your wealth is in property or investments. Check the current checklist for your visa on the mission's website.
From ₹1,499 excluding GST for one applicant. A couple or sponsor certificate starts at ₹6,999 and a multi-family or complex file at ₹11,999. There is no government fee. Payment is 50% upfront and 50% on delivery.
Rarely. Most missions take applications through the visa application centre they appoint, and the certificate goes in with your other documents there. Interviews, where the visa type needs one, are scheduled by the mission.
Yes, in a certificate in their names, with their documents and consent, filed with the sponsorship letter and proof of relationship. It supports the sponsor's standing; it does not replace the funds evidence your study route sets out.
Yes. The CA certifies the rupee figure and adds the foreign-currency equivalent, naming the rate, its source and its date. We use the FBIL reference rate for the reference date unless the mission specifies another rate.
At the circle rate notified by the Delhi government, at purchase cost, or at market value on a registered valuer's report. The basis is written beside the figure. We do not show a market value without a valuer's report behind it.
No law sets a validity period. Missions judge recency themselves, so we set the reference date close to your appointment. If the appointment moves by months, get a fresh certificate.
Through the UDIN. Anyone can enter it on ICAI's UDIN portal, without registering, to confirm a practising CA generated it for that document.
Not as a rule. Some missions, universities or sponsors ask for it. Those steps come after the CA signs and are not included in our fee, so tell us at the start if your checklist mentions them.
24 to 72 hours after your documents are complete. A simple file with bank accounts, investments and one property often closes within a day.
