CA-signed asset and liability statement, with UDIN, for Bengaluru professionals, students, founders and families travelling abroad
A net worth certificate for visa purposes is a practising chartered accountant's statement of your assets less your liabilities on a single date, signed and given a UDIN that the visa officer can verify on ICAI's portal. In Bengaluru, a large part of a household's wealth often sits in employer stock, provident fund and a flat bought on a home loan, none of which a bank statement shows. The certificate brings those onto one page as supporting evidence next to your bank statements and income-tax returns. Fee from ₹1,499, excluding GST.
| Item | Position for a Bengaluru applicant |
|---|---|
| What it is | A practising CA's certificate of assets less liabilities on one reference date |
| How it is checked | UDIN, verifiable on ICAI's UDIN portal by any third party without registering |
| Role in a visa file | Supporting evidence of funds and ties to India; not a substitute for bank statements and ITRs |
| Typical Bengaluru assets | Vested employer stock, EPF, mutual funds, a flat on a home loan |
| Currency | Rupees, plus an optional foreign-currency total with the rate, source and date stated |
| Turnaround | 24 to 72 hours once records are complete |
| Government fee | Nil |
| Our fee | From ₹1,499, excluding GST |
Start with the checklist, not the certificate. The official guidance we have checked does not name a CA net worth certificate as a requirement. The UK's visitor supporting documents guide asks for financial documents that clearly show you can access enough funds, such as bank statements showing where the money came from and proof of earnings like an employer's letter. Canada's proof of funds guidance points to bank statements, accumulated savings and an employment letter, and fixes no amount for visitors.
Where a certificate earns its place is when the bank balance tells only part of the story. A software engineer in Whitefield may hold more in vested shares of a US-listed employer and in EPF than in any savings account. A founder in Koramangala may have most of their wealth in their own company. A certificate traces those holdings to records and puts a defensible value on them. It is supporting evidence, and the mission decides how much weight it gets.
Salaried employees taking a Schengen, UK or Australia holiday, or visiting relatives in the US or Canada. Payslips and Form 16 prove income; the certificate adds the stock, PF and property that prove standing and ties. For a trip your employer sends you on, the employer's letter normally carries the file, and a certificate is rarely needed.
Students from Bengaluru heading to the US, UK, Canada, Germany or Australia. Each study route has its own rules on the funds a student must show and how; parents' certificates support the sponsor's standing without replacing those proofs. Our guide on the net worth certificate for an education loan covers the loan side.
Founders travelling to meet investors, customers or partners. A personal certificate shows the founder's own standing; unlisted shares in their startup are valued on a stated basis and shown separately. If the host or mission wants the company's net worth, that is a different certificate, built on the company's financial statements; see the net worth certificate for a private limited company.
Retired parents from Jayanagar or Malleswaram visiting a son or daughter overseas, often with a paid-off home and fixed deposits but little monthly bank activity. Their certificate sits beside the host's invitation and documents.
Some missions have a consulate in Bengaluru with jurisdiction over Karnataka; others handle Karnataka applicants from Chennai, Mumbai or New Delhi. The German Consulate General in Bengaluru, for example, covers Karnataka and Kerala, and the German missions in India take most applications through VFS Global. Other missions appoint their own providers. Check the mission's website for which office covers you, which visa application centre takes your file and what its checklist asks for.
Because the same household may file for more than one country in a year, for example a Schengen holiday in summer and a US family visit in winter, we address the certificate “to whom it may concern” for a visa application rather than to one consulate, unless a checklist asks otherwise.
We confirm the country, visa type, appointment date and whose assets are covered, and set the reference date.
You share documents online. Most Bengaluru clients never visit the office; hard copies can be collected from N.R. Road or couriered if the centre wants originals.
Each figure is traced to a statement, deed or plan report, and the valuation basis is agreed and written beside it.
We check that foreign shares, foreign accounts and other holdings are consistent with what your returns disclose. If they are not, we tell you before signing.
After you approve the draft and sign a representation letter, the CA signs and generates the UDIN. You receive the signed PDF.
| Stage | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Collecting stock-plan, EPF and loan statements | Depends on access to the portals; often one to two days |
| Tracing, valuation and draft | Within 24 hours for a simple file |
| Approval, signature and UDIN | Same day |
| Founder files with unlisted shares, or joint family files | Up to 72 hours |
A certificate speaks to one date and has no statutory validity period. Missions decide what they treat as recent, and the UK guide, for one, says bank statements or letters issued more than a year before the application are less useful. We set the reference date close to your appointment.
None. No government fee applies to a net worth certificate, and the UDIN costs the applicant nothing. Notarisation, apostille or attestation, and certified translation are needed only if a checklist asks for them; they happen after signature and are not part of our fee.
| Package | Fee (excluding GST) | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | From ₹1,499 | One person: bank accounts, investments, EPF and up to one property |
| Family | From ₹6,999 | A couple, or applicant plus sponsoring parent, including employer stock and ITR tracing |
| Multi-family | From ₹11,999 | Several family members or properties, founders with unlisted shares, business interests |
Fees exclude GST at 18%. Payment is 50% upfront and 50% on delivery. The fee is confirmed after we see your asset list. Valuer's fees, notarisation, apostille and translation are extra.
| Asset | Basis we normally use |
|---|---|
| Vested RSUs and ESPP shares | Shares held × closing price on the reference date, converted to rupees at the stated rate |
| Unvested RSUs and options | Not counted as an asset; noted for information if useful |
| EPF and PPF | Balance per latest passbook; shown separately as long-term savings |
| Mutual funds and listed Indian shares | Units or shares × NAV or closing price on the reference date |
| Unlisted startup shares | Cost, or a value from a recent valuation report or funding round, with the basis stated |
| Bengaluru property | Purchase cost, the guidance value notified under Karnataka's stamp law, or a registered valuer's market value; the basis is stated |
| Home loan and other debts | Outstanding on the reference date per lender statement |
The CA certifies the rupee figure. Any foreign-currency total is a translation, so the certificate names the rate, its source and its date. We use the reference rate of Financial Benchmarks India Ltd (FBIL), which took over the reference rate from the Reserve Bank of India on 10 July 2018, for the reference date, unless the mission specifies another rate. The same rate is used to bring dollar-denominated stock into rupees and to translate the total back, so the arithmetic closes.
| Document | Proves | Leaves out |
|---|---|---|
| Bank statements | Cash available and regular salary credits | Stock, PF, property and loans |
| Payslips and Form 16 | Employment and income | What you have built up |
| Income-tax returns | Declared income and disclosed assets over the years | Current market values |
| Net worth certificate | Assets less liabilities on one date, traced to records, with UDIN | Whether money is ready to spend on the trip |
Officers usually want to know two things: can you pay for this trip, and will you come back? Payslips, bank statements and returns answer the first; the certificate, with your job and family here, helps answer the second.
The certificate is issued by a chartered accountant in practice under ICAI's pronouncements, including the Guidance Note on Reports or Certificates for Special Purposes. No statutory format applies; a format a mission or university prescribes is followed.
ICAI requires a UDIN on every certificate signed on or after 1 February 2019. The 18-character number combines the year, the CA's membership number and a unique code, and any third party can verify it on the UDIN portal.

Two IT professionals in Whitefield are applying for visitor visas to see their daughter in the US. Their bank balances cover the trip, but they want to show their wider standing and ties to Bengaluru. They ask for a joint certificate, with the total in US dollars. One of them holds 400 vested shares of a US-listed employer, priced at US$150 at the close on the reference date.
| Item | Basis | ₹ |
|---|---|---|
| Flat off Sarjapur Road (joint) | Guidance value | 95,00,000 |
| Vested employer shares | 400 × US$150 = US$60,000 at ₹88.00 | 52,80,000 |
| EPF (both) | Passbook balance | 24,60,000 |
| Savings and fixed deposits | Statements, FD interest accrued | 14,20,000 |
| Mutual funds | Units × NAV | 11,40,000 |
| Total assets | 1,98,00,000 | |
| Home loan outstanding | Lender statement | (48,00,000) |
| Credit card dues | Card statements | (1,00,000) |
| Net worth | 1,49,00,000 | |
| In US dollars | At ₹88.00 per USD | US$169,318 |
Working: ₹1,49,00,000 ÷ 88.00 = US$169,318, rounded down to the dollar. Unvested grants are left out. The same rate converts the shares into rupees and the total back into dollars, so an officer can recompute both. Because the shares are a foreign asset, we check they appear in the couple's income-tax return before signing.
Illustrative figures. The ₹88.00 rate is assumed for this example only; the actual certificate uses the FBIL reference rate published for the reference date, or a rate the mission specifies.

Generally not. The official checklists we have checked, such as the UK visitor guide and IRCC's proof of funds guidance, ask for bank statements, proof of earnings and similar documents. A CA certificate is supporting evidence. Check the current checklist for your visa on the mission's website.
From ₹1,499 excluding GST for one person. A couple or sponsor certificate starts at ₹6,999 and a multi-family or founder file at ₹11,999. No government fee applies. Payment is 50% upfront and 50% on delivery.
Vested shares you hold can, at the closing price on the reference date converted at the stated rate. Unvested RSUs and options are not yours yet, so they are not counted as assets.
Yes, as part of your net worth, but we show it separately because it is long-term savings rather than money available for the trip.
Not on a personal certificate. Your shares in the company can be shown on a stated basis. If the host or mission wants the company's own net worth, that is a separate certificate on the company's financial statements.
Yes, through a certificate in the parents' names with their documents and consent, filed with a sponsorship letter. It supports the sponsor's standing; your study route's own funds rules still apply.
The FBIL reference rate for the reference date, unless the mission specifies another. The certificate states the rate, the source and the date.
At purchase cost, at the guidance value notified under Karnataka's stamp law, or at a registered valuer's market value. The basis is stated beside the figure.
Using the UDIN on ICAI's UDIN portal, which confirms that a practising CA generated it for that document. No registration is needed to verify.
24 to 72 hours after your documents are complete. The slowest part is usually downloading stock-plan and EPF statements.
